June Strawberry Shortcake

The first sign that summer is really here. Sweet biscuits, macerated berries, real whipped cream — nothing fancy.

June Strawberry Shortcake

Method

  1. 1

Toss berries with 1/3 cup sugar. Let sit 30 minutes to macerate.

  2. 2

Preheat oven to 425°F. Whisk flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until pea-sized.

  3. 3

Stir in cream just until dough comes together. Pat to 1-inch thick, cut into 6 rounds, brush with cream.

  4. 4

Bake 12–15 minutes until golden. Cool slightly.

  5. 5

Split biscuits, layer with berries and their juice, and top with whipped cream.
